Case Manager/Program Facilitator
The Calgary Drug Treatment Court provides a justice alternative for individuals with a substance-use-disorder that integrates justice, health and treatment services.
About the Calgary Drug Treatment Court
The Calgary Drug Treatment Court works with individuals facing 1 to 5 years in custody as a result of criminal charges associated with a substance-use-disorder. To enter the program, participants plead guilty to charges before the court and are released to the community on a customized bail order. Program participants are provided with an intensive program over a minimum of one year which includes intensive case management, treatment planning, and support for access to over 85 community agencies to address their case-specific needs.
Role of the Case Manager/Program Facilitator
The CDTC Case Manager/Program Facilitator holds a central role in the services provided by the treatment team of the Calgary Drug Treatment Court. Working with a caseload of participants, the Case Manager/Program Facilitator provides ongoing support and intervention focused on assisting participants to build and sustain a recovery lifestyle, linking them with needed services and resources and providing standardized programming to address attitudes toward crime.
The Case Manager/Program Facilitator is a member of the Treatment Team which is a collaborative partner in the overall court intervention component of the program. This position is responsible to develop concise and coherent reports to the court each week regarding participants’ progress and challenges. This role requires the capacity to work collaboratively with a diverse multi-disciplinary team of legal, law enforcement and treatment professionals who work together to provide the weekly court intervention.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Ongoing assessment and planning to address participants’ needs
- Building supportive relationships with participants, conducive to the development of trust
- Promoting participants’ awareness of, and positive change in, patterns of criminal and addictive thinking
- Supporting participants on issues related to recovery from addictions, lifestyle, social determinants of health, and personal goals
- Facilitating standardized/manualized groups
- Intensive Case Management including assessment and planning, linking to specific resources, monitoring progress and the impact of resources/services, and advocating for service access
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Addictions or a related field, with a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience is preferred. Alternate combinations of education, professional experience and relevant personal experience/suitability may be considered.
- Able to maintain professional boundaries and build trust with diverse client populations
- Strong knowledge of addictions and recovery
- Previous experience implementing change-based intervention with clients
- Highly organized
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Completion/submission of a Criminal Record Check
- Must be able to attain security clearance to enter the Calgary Remand Centre
- Able to work weekdays (Monday to Friday). Some evening and weekend work will be required.
