Student Care Coordinator

Position Description
The Student Care Coordinator provides support and stewardship for students experiencing complex barriers during their polytechnic journey. The incumbent plays an integral role in supporting the success and retention of RDP students by advocating for Creating Actionable & Responsible Early Supports (CARES) using principles of therapeutic and restorative justice, case management, crisis response, holistic/wrap-around supports and trauma-informed care, while navigating multifaceted services and processes.
This position has three focus areas: supporting students in complex situations and coordination of internal and external resources; management of non-academic conduct issues; and point of contact for sexual and gender-based violence disclosures and reports. They will build resources and processes around these areas while also providing education and support to the campus community. They will focus on developing and strengthening relationships and collaborations with community agencies and services to enhance seamless referrals and transitions for students.
Qualifications
- Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of university in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent in Social Work.
- Must have current registration with Alberta College of Social Workers or another professional regulatory body.
- A Vulnerable Sector check is required
- 3-5 years case management experience.
- Experience working from a trauma-informed perspective with strong understanding and knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
- Solid understanding of issues of procedural fairness and due process. Experience with policy interpretation.
- Experience in discerning boundaries of their practice and collaborating with other areas and departments while respecting appropriate confidentiality constraints.
- Extensive experience working with diverse cultural populations.
- Experience in interacting with individuals who have experienced any forms of sexual and gender-based violence or harassment and its intersection with other forms of harm and violence (i.e., racism, ableism, intimate partner violence) as well as working with perpetrators of violence.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable presenting to groups regarding sensitive topics.
- Excels in working under pressure and difficult circumstances.
- Prior investigative experience or training with strong understanding and knowledge of interviewing practices (experience working with civil, institutional and/or criminal processes).
- VTRA training considered an asset.
- Experience working in any of the following areas is an asset: judicial affairs, student development, behavior intervention, risk assessment and campus safety.
